Monday Madness - 10 Amazing Artists to follow on Instagram

Hello, it’s Daisy! Every Monday we are going to take turns posting some sort of feature, this being the first. These posts could be about anything, from something that has piqued our interest that week to something we feel deeply passionate about – really whatever we fancy and whatever we think people will enjoy and is worth writing about -  and this week it’s my turn (and yes I know its technically not Monday anymore UK time, but I'm new to this. It's Monday somewhere in the world and that't whats matters!). Hope you enjoy!

Ten Amazing Artists to follow on Instagram

Ok, so I think it’s fair to say most of us love a bit of the self-indulgent, filter-y, selfie paradise that is Instagram – I know I do. However whilst it seems most people use the social networking site to stalk their favourite celebrities, there’s more to it all than Kim Kardashian’s latest butt-shots (however voluptuously unbelievable they may be). Instagram also provides a platform for some brilliant artists, illustrators and graphic designers to share their creative process with the world. Here for you are ten of my favourites!

1. Bec Winnel, @becwinnel

Bec Winnel is an Australian artist and illustrator that I have followed for a very long time. She creates incredibly beautiful and ethereal paintings and drawings with more than a sprinkle of fantasy and magic. She also shares much of her work in progress with her followers, allowing them to see her masterpieces every step of the way from inception to completion.
Follow her @becwinnel or go to her website www.becwinnel.com

Harriette, Bec Winnel.

 2. Tiffany Cooper, @tiffanycooper_

Tiffany Cooper, the now well-established French author and illustrator started out as a blogger writing about the fashion industry. She doesn’t take fashion to seriously however, with her illustrations often depicting and poking fun at some of the most famous faces in the game, like Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour. Her pop culture comics are now famous within the industry she loves to mock and are such a success she has now published her own book.

3. Seb Lester, @seblester

There is something SO captivating and satisfying about London based Seb Lester’s Instagram, filled with videos of his beautiful calligraphy. I could honestly spend all day watching these videos – it is like hand-writing porn and is most definitely a highly skilled art form, even when he is just writing out his shopping list! I could not recommend checking him and his work out more.

4. Kemi Mai, @drawinds

At only 18 years old Kemi Mai is astoundingly talented. Mai specialises in gorgeously rich female portraits, however she is not painting with brushes but with pixels and is entirely self-taught.  Her portraits absolutely BLOW MY MIND – they are so serene and yet totally bad-ass, I still almost can’t believe they are created using only a tablet!

5. Helen Green, @helengreeen

Helen Green is an incredible illustrator, posting colourful and vivid portraits of past and present cultural icons, pop divas and models with particular focus on the Mama Monster herself Lady Gaga. Starting out on Instagram, Helen is now on first name terms with Gaga and an honorary member of her creative team the legendary Haus of Gaga. Her drawings are so on point, capturing the exact likeness and spirit of all her beautiful subjects.

6. Dschwen LLC., @dschwen

Dschwen LLC. is a design studio creatively lead by David Schwen and based in Minneapolis.  As their Instagram bio tells us, they are masters at ‘illustrating the everyday’, combining mounds of creativity and impeccable design their posts never fail to make me smile. They create images so simple but so very effective and with new projects all the time theirs is one account you will not mind filling up your feed.

7. Rachel Ryle, @rachelryle

If you’re ever feeling down, pop over to Rachel Ryle’s Instagram account, and if you don’t crack a smile you are truly a miserable git! Rachel’s stop-motion animated illustrations are absolutely genius. They really are always genuinely delightful (and not many peoples work can claim that), always so full of surprises and always with crazy attention to detail. I LOVE THEM!

8. Sally Cotterill, @sally_faye

Somewhere between artist and fashion blogger is where you will find Sally Cotterill, a massively talented illustrator who’s stylish drawings can now be seen not only on Instagram but gracing the pages (both web and paper) of multiple fashion publications. Sally takes ‘it’ products and transforms them into perfect, pastel, visual perfection as well as providing some gorgeous photographs to boot – an absolute must for style and illustration loves alike.

9. Anna Olsson, @mor_anna

Swedish artist Anna Olsson uses cut paper to create her works, and whilst simple they are really stunning. Anna uses a combination of natural and synthetic materials and plays around using shapes and colours to create her distinctly handmade pieces, herself hailing Instagram as a key component in all her creations. She rarely puts captions under her work but she doesn’t need to – the art speaks for itself.

10. Sophie McMahan, @youwereswell

Last but by no means least is one of my favourite artists on Instagram Sophie McMahan. Sophie’s sublime kitsch-vintage-with a gruesome twist- drawings are so rad it actually hurts! Her slimy-skinned pin-up beauties are like nothing else, and what’s even better- she sells her creations on Etsy! In the words of the lady herself, stay sick!
Find her @youwereswell, sophiemcmahon.com and youwereswell.etsy.com.
